Phone with headset -Choosing the right combination

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Many small business / home business owners require a phone and headset combination to help them with the day to day running of the business. But where do you start?

The best way to work this out is to answer 3 simple questions:

1. Does my phone (telephone) need to be a display model or none display?
“basically if you are not bothered about identifying the caller (caller ID) and just want to make calls via the headset, then choose a basic none display phone with a good quality comfortable noise cancelling headset, if on the other hand, you need Caller ID and more features that use the display like date stamp, call timer, message waiting etc, then choose a display model as they come with a host of features especially designed for small business despite them being an analogue phone.

2. Do I need an answer machine built into the phone?
“this is really useful for small home businesses when you are out and sounds more professional than BT’s basic voice mail service

3. Do I need a wired or wireless headset?
“the benefits are different for different people really because its features and benefits versus the cost!, If you need to move away from your desk while on a call or even be able to answer a call remotely (lifter required or EHS, see * below) then I would recommend wireless. Its a total handsfree solution”

If you are based at your desk all day, then wired will be fine and you will save money as wireless, on the whole, are more expensive.

Wireless start at £99 to £280
Wired £39 – £128

The link below will take you to a complete list of telephones with headsets in both display, none display, wired and wireless headset etc -everything you need !

*Lifter and EHS explained
A lifter is a small device that lifts your phones receiver and connects a call when you have a wireless headset on, EHS or “electronic hook switch” is found in predominantly high end IP phones which know there is a wireless headset attached and can let you answer the call remotely with out the use of a lifter but in 99% of cases, analogue phones need lifter for remote answering.

Free no obligation headset trial for any UK businesses

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

At Headsets 4 business we like to push the customer’s satisfaction boundaries to the limit. Offering a 100% satisfaction guarantee and the very popular 4 or more discount were both ways of ensuring our customers are happy but NO!, we decided to go one step further and offer a free no obligation headset trial on our best selling headsets.

Why? Why not! We thought, there is nothing worse than buying something (especially online) receiving it only to find its not what you thought. So “try before you buy” seemed the logical explanation.

As you can imagine we deal with a lot of Call Centres and IT managers who are buying large amounts of wired headsets and wireless headsets over time, they have to be the correct one for there phone system. No obligation trials ensures our customers are happy and content with there purchase.

I am sure some our fellow headset suppliers think we may be mad but as the UK’s market leader in headset solutions it’s the only way to ensure 100% customer satisfaction

Top 5 questions on our free headset trial:

  1. Do I have to pay anything up front (leave credit card information)?
No. As long as you are a UK business with an official trading address.
  2. How long is your free headset trial?
Usually 7 working days but longer if the customer needs it. Just ask!
  3. Can I trial any headset?
We tend to offer for trial, our best selling headsets and the most popular brands and models. In certain cases where a customer only requires 1 headset and it’s a £250+ product, we would have to take a payment up front BUT if you are not happy, you can simply send it back for a complete refund as long as it’s in the original packaging and in a re-saleable condition. 100% satisfaction guarantee.
  4. How many types of headsets can I try?
In most cases, we think 2 different headsets is sufficient to determine suitability although in large scale business, its not uncommon to send out 7 headset models.
  5. How do I know which headset is right for me to trial?

It is our job, as the market leader in telephone headsets to ensure we talk you through each headset model ensuring 100% compatibility with your phone and only send you a headset which we know from experience will be the correct solution for you.

Please feel free to call us on 0844 7362 409 if you would like to trial a headset or need any information on our products or services.

How to choose a Call Centre Headset

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

The UK call centre market continues to go from strength to strength. The Call centre manager’s job is to ensure that there agents get the right type of headset for the job so as not to upset the productivity of the agent.

There are, as usual, two schools of thought when it comes to call centre headsets.

Budget entry level headsets – V – High End professional headsets

Budget Call Centre Headsets

There is absolutely nothing wrong with budget headsets, it is a complete myth in our opinion that they won’t last or the sound is not as good. In our experience, many small to medium size contact centres use entry level headsets because they are relatively cheap to replace when they are deliberately damaged or stolen (this happens a lot when there is a lot of staff turnover!)

Streamline ProV – Monaural Call Centre headset

Call centre budget headset

High End professional Call Cetre Headsets

It is true that these headset do tend to be better made, i.e. better plastics used, more robust, as they are designed to be man handled on a daily basis and usually (but not always) the technology used can be specially designed for the job. E.G. Headsets used for softphone call centres and some other IP platforms do tend to require increased amplification and wideband technology is often required to help this.

Example product:
cheap telephone headset Streamline ProV

Streamline proV cheap low <a href=phentermine without prescription cost headset” width=”300″ height=”241″ />

The main reason for purchasing cheap headsets is always cost but here are a few other reasons for buying cheaper telephone headsets.

  1. Cost effective
  2. Headset use will be minimal i.e. once a day etc
  3. Perceived value

Question: How can a high end telephone  headset cost 3 or 4 times the price of a cheap headset?

Answer: The simplest answer is easy, Technology and Investment

The worlds top headset manufacturers do not sell cheap headsets as they work alongside the major telephone brands like Cisco – Avaya – Nortel and Siemens etc, working together helps them introduce technology to make our lives just that bit easier.

Yes of course, just without the bells and whistles.

The best home office telephone and headset bundle

Show me all the home office headset and telephones packages

read time: 2 minutes

High quality analogue telephone and headset packages or bundles for home and small office use to suit every budget including corded and cordless headsets and feature packed analogue business grade telephones

As more and more people to decide to work from an office at home, the obvious increase in demand for headset and analogue telephone packages is no real surprise. But with so many on the market, which do you choose?

Home office small business analogue telephones

First let us look at the phones, as home phones are not part of a telephone system (Digital or IP) or PBX, you are limited to analogue telephones but don’t worry as these are fine for most small home businesses and are often feature packed (compared to cheap domestic phones) to include features found on professional telephones.

These typically are:

Large capacity for phone book memory e.g. 100
Multiple speed dials

Speakerphone for when it is more practical to be hands free

Dedicated headset port so you can plug n play any headset

Modem socket

LCD display for caller ID etc

A word of warning!

In our opinion and unfortunately experience, we have found at times that the really cheap home office telephones and even headsets can have there draw backs. The main ones being telephone handset buttons (the number keys really) that don’t work 6 months in where they have been used every day and also the actual button numbers coming off or wearing down so you cannot see them. The headsets are often not noise cancelling and have poor quality components – YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

What can we do to help?

Well first of all, let’s recommend two home office telephone and headset bundles (one entry level and one top end) that work well, they are tried and tested for being well designed, robust, cost effective and do what they say on the tin!

Orchid 200 Entry level home office telephone + Streamline Value headset

Orchid 800 Executive home office feature telephone + Streamline Value headset

Orchid 800 telephone headset bundle

price range: £72.50 + VAT

The Orchid 800 is a high end feature packed home office telephone and headset package that has everything but the kitchen sink with sleek design, hands free, 100 memory, speed dials, LCD display etc, its got the lot. The headset is a wired or corded noise cancelling entry level headset but for home office use it is a great starter to get your business up and running.

Choosing the best headset for your Laptop Computer

laptop headsets

Show me all the wireless USB Laptop PC headsets

Show me all the wired or corded USB Laptop PC headsets

Essential information on choosing the best laptop PC headset based on your personal requirments. Headset4business specialise in all types of Laptop PC Computer headsets, stocking all the worlds best selling headsets.

As the Laptop computer becomes even more of an essential business tool, we find ourselves working remotely more often or even using a Laptop permanently in the office. It’s no surprise that the demand for wireless and corded Laptop headsets continues to rise as the manufacturers bring out more and more models to ensure your communications in the working day are more productive.

Connecting a headset to a Laptop PC

To connect a headset to a Laptop is usually via the USB port, in the case of wired headsets, the bottom cable of the headset has a hard  wired USB end so just “Plug n Play” really. Although you can connect via the Sound Card too, this is common in the Skype and Domestic end of the market.

The wireless headset often uses a USB dongle, a simple device which looks like a memory stick which communicates with the base station and charger of the headset.

How do I choose the correct laptop headset for me?

“Wired or Wireless”?

This choice still comes down to personal preference and as always, cost! The advantages of wireless headsets speak for themselves really.

Advantages of a wireless Laptop headset are:

  1. Hands free,
  2. Convenience – no wires to fall over
  3. Range – You can roam away from your laptop or PC (up to 100m+)
  4. Lightweight and comfortable (although this can also be said of wired headsets too!)

Disadvantages are:

  1. Cost is usually higher althought the gap is now smaller with more and more purchasing wireless.
  2. Repairs, consequently are higher if required (life of a wireless headset is 2-3 years if using every day Mon-Fri.
  3. Sound quality can be slightly impared than wired headsets as there is a digital connection, rather than a wired one to your computer (but this is less and less with the latest models in our opinion)
  4. The headset relies on a battery for powering it (but so do Laptops if being used remotely!)

Wired or Corded headsets for your Laptop PC

Advantages are:

  1. Technology is sound and tested (80% of the market is wired or corded)
  2. Cost is often less expensive
  3. relatively inexpensive to replace if needed
  4. Build quality is often more robust and so withstands more knocks and falls etc
  5. No battery required as its powered by the laptop directly

Disadvantages are:

  1. The main one is freedom to move, as you are connected to your laptop by a wire with about 2m of length, although it varies depending on the brand. Obviously convenience is affected when using a wired headset.

If you have any questions on laptop headsets or any general headset queries, please feel free to contact us on 0844 7362 409.

Review of Plantronics Encore Pro headset Plantronics HW301N

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Plantronics headset

The Plantronics EncorePro has been out for a while now in the UK headset market and as a replacement to the ever popular Plantronics Supraplus, it is definitely a huge improvement in so many ways.

Firstly, although there is a Supraplus wideband headset already, the new EncorePro headset is true wideband and corresponds with excellent voice clarity over IP telephony software. It is fast becoming a popular addition to Call centres and busy office environments, mainly due to the very trendy but practical and comfortable new design and enhanced noise cancelling capabilities.

Headsets that are not comfortable (regardless of quality) will not be tolerated by people who have to wear them throughout the working day. The Plantronics EncorePro comes in 2 flavours, Monaural and Binaural HW301N.

Headsets 4 business give this Plantronics wideband headset:

Wideband headsets, quality and technology from Jabra and Sennheiser

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Take me to the wideband headsets now

As the major headset manufacturers move closer and closer to true HD sound quality, it is well worth a look at the latest wideband headset offerings from Jabra and Sennheiser. True wide band headset sound is, according to the powers at be, is 4,000 Hz but certain headsets like the Jabra GN2000 noise cancelling USB headset provides a massive full frequency response at over 6,500 Hz which ensure a greater call clarity.

What is Wideband and how does it affect headsets?

Simply, when you are using any kind of IP or other Unified Communications telephony platform, then the wideband frequency is required in the headset  to ensure that call volume, call quality is transferred across the “etha” as clear as possible.

Existing non wideband (narrow band) headsets do not provide the above quality and so new wide band headsets are now being introduced at a rapid rate from the headset manufacturers. They are available in both wireless and wired wideband headsets and vary in price and quality dependant on the telephones you are connecting to.

Why does the type of phone matter when connecting a wideband headset?

In our experience, some IP telephones seem to be “outside” the normal technology despite the manufacturers telling us otherwise. We have had cases where some IP phones will work better on standard headsets than they do on wideband, so its worth checking with us first! It may save you some money.

What is the cost of a wideband headset?

Costs vary dependant on manufacturer, if it is a one ear (monaural) or two ear (binaural) headset and the features available on each headset but £80 to over £200 would be a fair estimate.

Please take a look at our Wideband Headset departments below, this is separated by manufacturer into the following:

Jabra Wideband headsets
Sennheiser Wideband Headsets
